On a parcel in the hills outside Barcelona, RTA-Office designed House and Studio YC with two objectives in mind. The first was to preserve as many of the site’s trees as possible, allowing them to grow around any new construction. The second was simply to generate variety. ‘Variety of view; variety of colour; variety of light,’ says RTA-Office’s Simona Assiero Brá. ‘That is the main focus of the house, to capture segments of natural light and accentuate their changes throughout the day and year depending on the season and weather.’

Looking at the every-grey Berlin sky, we wouldn’t mind swapping locations with this dwelling called Turner Residence, designed by Jensen Architects, situated in Larkspur, a steep and heavily wooded hillside with heritage-status trees and unobstructed views of Mount Tamalpais and the San Francisco Bay.

Compact Karst House

The region of Karst was once covered with Oak trees that Venetians have extensively used for building up the City on water. They have left the wind to peel off earth revealing limestone grounds. In this landscape the tradition of small, compact, stony and almost windowless houses developed and remained until today.

Danish design company Vipp has completed their first architectural project – a plug and play getaway conceived as a ‘livable industrial object’. The 55 square meter unit, named the steel-clad ‘Vipp Shelter’, boasts a simple grid structure that supports the two level space, and elevates it above the woodland floor. Internally, the dwelling is fitted out with the company’s products, with hooks, lamps and kitchen appliances ensuring that the scheme retains a strong sense of identity.

Casa Balint by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos

via hypebeast.com

Built with stunning, pristine minimalism, the Casa Balint quietly rests in the suburban regions of Valencia, Spain. Ideated by Spanish architecture firm Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, the home was designed with clever elliptical shapes built into the two-story facade and surrounding area. Accordingly, a crescent-shaped swimming pool shadows the structure itself, while the surrounding garden echoes the shape as well. At the interior, the two-story home is focused around an open plan living space at the center, where the kitchen, patio, and staircase all conjoin.

The latest project from São Paolo based design studio Arthur Casas, Casa (house) AL is another perfect example of the team’s intimate connection to horizontal scale. Built in Joa, in the hills outside of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the three-floor home is fully integrated with its natural surroundings due to the choice of materials. But best of all, it has a very unexpected ocean view that is second to none.

Casa Rocas

The view of the Pacific terrain is preserved, even facilitated, throughout Studio MK27’s and 57STUDIO’s collaborative, modern house Casa Rocas in Chile’s Valparaíso Region. Sitting on a stony hillside that gently slopes into the sea, the house has been fashioned by lead architect Marcio Kogan into a drawer-like design that renders it into horizontal boxes and trays that “slide” into the hillside, creating multiple levels from which the magnificent view can be taken in.

The House of the Infinite

On a marvelous place like a piece of earthly paradise, at Cádiz, we have built an infinite plane facing the infinite sea, the most radical house we have ever made. At the very edge of the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, where the sea unites the new and the old continent, emerges a stone platform. At the place where all the ships from the Mediterranean used to pass and still pass by as they head off into the Atlantic.
