The SkyHouse takes a century-old skyscraper and turns its upper floors into a playful residential dream

Many of us dream of the house we would like to build, though, in reality, few of us realise these imagined residencies, and often settle for some kind of period conversion. The SkyHouse, a new penthouse apartment in the American Tract Society Building in Manhattan certainly is a conversion; the tower was constructed in 1896, and this crowning apartment occupies the highest floor of the block, as well as a three-storey hipped-roof tower, which tops the building off. However, few of us could imagine living here, even in our wildest dreams.

Ferrari has taken the wraps off of its new flagship heading into the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the new Ferrari LaFerrari. The LaFerrari supplants the Ferrari Enzo as the new prince amongst prancing ponies, a hybrid-powered supercar capable of breakneck acceleration and 200+ top speeds. A 949 combined horsepower hybrid system is the heartbeat of the Ferrari LaFerrari, with a mated 6.3-liter V12 engine and a 160-hp electric motor. That power will push the LaFerrari past 62 mph in less than three seconds as it screams toward 205 mph at its peak.

Architects Alexey Goryainov and Mikhail Crimea of Moscow-based firm Arch Group, took the industry by surprise a few years back when they built the first Sleepbox Pods, affordable white sleeping quarters for travelers to have a quick rest, at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. The resting pods helped reshape the traveling experience for people going in and out of Moscow, in a positive way. Because of its success, Arch Group has teamed up with businessman leonid chernikov to open the first SleepBox Hotel near the Belorussky Railway Station, in Moscow.

Couture gowns do not belong on the runway. They belong on the stage. And nobody understands the theatrics of Haute Couture better than Karl Lagerfeld, artistic director and visionary for Chanel, who explained “I saw it in my dream, put it on my paper, gave it to the man that builds my set, and I think he worked it out beautifully.” Lagerfield transformed his dream, into an artistic instrument, which he then used to metamorphose Grand Palais in Paris into a dazzling forest wonderland to display Chanel’s Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection.
