Tyson/

A long time ago, Tadao Ando once told me about a similarity between boxing and architecture. He was a young (I was like a kid still…) and extremely intense man with a threatening gaze. Basically Ando was trying to tell me that one needs to approach architecture like its do or die… heww, what a view on architecture.

I had no interest in martial arts of any kind around that time, but was intrigued by a nineteen year old kid named Mike Tyson that I saw on TV one day. I started to follow his every fight on TV. This documentary film which opens today shows many clips from that time as well as some people like Teddy Atlas, Mitch “Blood” Green I got to know later at the gym in Brooklyn.

Tyson was AWESOME. So was Ando… but I am having a hard time finding any commonality between boxing and architecture.

Max’s Room

An adaptation of my favorite book as a child. I was simply fascinated with the idea that Max’s room could turn into a vast forest on the shore of a sea. It still will be my dream room.

Christophe Laudamiel: Design for the Invisible

There are hundreds of fragrances out on the market that bear familiar names like “Dior,” “Calvin Klein,” “Dolce&Gabbana” and so on. But there are only a handful of perfumers who are capable of creating the scents for theses brands. Christoph Laudamiel is one of these elite ‘noses’.

What makes Laudamiel very different from the rest of the elite noses is his broad and futuristic vision for perfumery. Unlike fashion, the world of fragrance is old fashion and formal. Innovative ideas and projects are hardly coming out except from this iconoclastic mind.

The video was taken at MOMA in April.

Jeff Koons Versailles

The major retrospective on Jeff Koons, the star of the ’80s Neo-Geo movement, opened at the Château de Versailles a few weeks ago. The exhibition runs until December 14, 2008.

If you are visiting Paris this year, don’t be lazy, go to Versailles first. Viewing a great American artist’s work in an environment with an incomparably rich history could be your once-in-a-lifetime experience.
