STRIKE A POSE: Eccentric Architecture and Spectacular Spaces is a book published last fall by Gestalten, a relatively young (since 1997) but quite established and unique publisher in Germany.
Gestalten’s art/design publications have rabidly expanded their cult following among the art and design community in Japan not only as the publisher of fascinating art/design books but also as a media and design agency showcasing the cutting edge of today’s visual art/design.
STRIKE A POSE shows us the “Extroverted spectacular architecture and futuristic spaces charged with iconographic scenes” consisting of 187 residences and buildings in 30 different countries by 129 architectural firms.
Due to the strict focus on its theme, the book includes high percentage of architectures and firms in Japan. Among many glossy coffee-table books on architecture with the photographs of compact, unusual looking houses in Japan, STRIKE A POSE is by far the best book I’ve seen in recent years.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone (professional or not) who is interested in contemporary architecture.

A few people asked us about the rents of these “Bikers’ Apartments” in Tokyo.
The rent of an apartment unit where you can keep a motorcycle inside ranges from $800 to $1700 a month. The more you pay the fancier and more convenient it gets.
Currently these units are available:
One apartment (448 SF) is available at NE Apartment for about $1,660 a month.
Another one (349 SF) is available at Apartment in Shimokitazawa for about $1,375 a month.
And a few units are still available at Creer Ukimafunado for about $1,300 a month and up.
Roll it into your apartment and show off to the world! The apartment units at Creer Ukimafunado are not for Bugaboo strollers Continue Reading

Niko is a Tokyo based architecture firm founded by Taketo Nishikubo (b. 1973) in December 2001. Prior to establishing Niko, Nishikubo worked for Atelier Zo, a renowned firm since the early ’70s. In 2004 Nishikubo’s firm was joined by Yumiko Hara, a former colleague at Atelier Zo and now his partner in life.
Niko’s forte is designing a ‘micro’ house on a small irregular-shaped lot for a client with unique taste and needs.
