The heart is made of fragrance loaded pellets. This is an image from my installation in 2003 called 100% Love. You can learn more about the material at IFF web site if interested. Many wanted to believe they were candies and tried to taste them…

Ah, makes perfect sense. Would have been wonderful to be able to visit the installation. This is why we need scented video! 😀 I’m a little surprised that people would try to eat them though. I wonder how long the pellets retain their scent?

There was even a small sign near the piece saying “Not for Eating”. Clearly some people didn’t want to believe what was written there and just had to try. The scent is impregnated into the polymer and lasts for many many years. It’s one of the leading technologies that IFF has which hasn’t been fully explored at commercial level.

I bet it’s expensive technology but there must be a lot of room for creativity with it. Even just as potpourri – easy to dust and lasts for years! Think of the pretty shapes. Jewelry or clothing would be fun; no need to reapply your favorite perfume. A wave of scent coming off of glittery bangles 🙂
