The Perfect Wall House was inspired by concepts put forth by forensic engineer Joe Lstiburek. Created by architectural firm Rauser Design, the house features an interesting element that separates it from others like it: a majority of the building materials can be found on the outside of the house.

French studio Marchi Architects created the ‘Black House’, a timber home in the midst of a forest in the Normandy region.

The extension was cladded with near-black wooden timber slats, which gives it a sleek yet unobtrusive appearance in the lush surrounding landscape. Additionally, the volume is embedded into the sloping terrain, giving access to and offering expansive views of the environment.

Architect Luciano Kruk and his girlfriend Ekaterina Künzel designed themselves this concrete holiday house, which is set among a grove of maritime pines on the Argentinian coastline. Named Casa L4, the 183-square-metre residence is located in Costa Esmeralda, a picturesque stretch of coastline set 250 miles south of Buenos Aires.

Proarh adds glass intervention to traditional farmers cottage in Croatia

A traditional Zagorje cottage situated on the green slopes near Kumrovec in Croatia was renovated by Zagreb-based firm Proarh. The structure beforehand was left in disrepair but the architects decided to retain and remodel the cottage to keep with its original characteristics.

The Little House is nestled into a lush second growth forest on a north facing bluff overlooking Hood Canal. Built over an existing foundation, the new building is just over 20 ft square. Early design discussions focused on creating a compact, modern structure that was both simple and efficient.

A pair of giant glass doors span the rear of this house in Yucatán, Mexico, opening it to a leafy courtyard garden and shaded pool. Wedged between existing buildings in the city’s Santiago neighbourhood, the house fills a long but narrow plot measuring 6.5 metres by 27.5 metres. To alleviate issues of naturally lighting and cross ventilating the deep building, the local architects built up layers of sliding glazing, planting and cement block walls to provide a buffer against the hot climate.

The bungalow is the first of a series of cabins to be built over a spectacular site in Tepoztlán, a small paradise located at about 50 km from Mexico City. The town has fantastic weather conditions, and a unique character built thru its pre-Hispanic origins that were followed by a colonial center that is still the heart of the village; its charm attracts the presence of intellectuals and thinkers to stay over the weekend, or for longer periods of time.
