Before Ando, there was Azuma.

In 1966, architect Takamitsu Azuma bought a tiny lot (about 220 square feet) in Tokyo, which was a leftover from a subdivision, and decided to built his studio and a home there.

The small “Tower House” inspired many young Japanese to become architects and became the symbol of modern residential architecture in Japan.

Today, the house is on the trendiest street in Tokyo but has not lost its allure at all.

There are many images of the inside of the house here.
