New Zealand studio Architects’ Creative designed ‘Ophir‘, a hillside dwelling in Christchurch constructed from black zinc, rough concrete and cedar wood.

Commissioned by owners whose previous home was lost to the Canterbury earthquake of 2012, the project centers around the notion of resilience. Exposed structural steel frames support the upper living level, which offers sweeping views over the Southern Alps. A timber interior brings warmth to the house, offering “a sense of security, substance and permanence,” say the architects. “[The house] affords moments of calm within spaces for reflection, embodying a way of living to better suit its occupants.”
