Cuteness in Japanese culture is well known, and the word “kawaii” is even known outside the country. “Kakkoii” is another word that is equally important when speaking about Japanses popular culture. In a way, kakkoii which means ‘good-looking’ is the masculine equivalent of kawaii.

Architecture in Japan is part of the nation’s pop culture today, and those two words are often quite relevant to describe Japanese architectures. I cannot deny the feeling that architect Akira Yoneda of Architecton is in the hunt for ultimate kakkoiiness in architecture. This small house called Δ in Meguro, Tokyo is a good example – he is really pushing the envelope to the point that some may feel this is almost grotesque.
